As a General Practice Law Firm we provide a wide range of legal services. Our clients have found this beneficial because we can handle most of their legal needs out of one office. We build long lasting relationships with our clients. When they have a question or concern, we give them the answers that they need. We provide them with the information to protect themselves and future generations. Our practice areas range from drafting wills and trusts to litigating contract disputes.
Mildred Fletcher Slater has specialized in Real Estate Transactions for over twenty years. She handles all real estate closings personally. Mildred Fletcher Slater handles most of the multimillion dollar sales in the Upperville and Middleburg Area. She also specializes in gift transfers, boundary line adjustments, and conservation easements.
Catharine Slater Crawford handles the litigation of real estate cases, including boundary line disputes, sales agreement disputes, and partition law suits.
We are committed to helping our clients plan for the future. Our private wealth services assist our clients in fulfilling their personal and family goals by protecting their assets. We collaborate with our clients' accountants, insurance representatives and other professional advisers to provide our clients with the most comprehensive estate plan. We advise executors and trustees in the administration of estates in order to ensure the proper execution of fiduciary duties. Our first priority is to protect our clients' estate for future generations.
Mildred Fletcher Slater handles most of the Estate Planning in our office and provides our clients everything from a simple will to a more complex and tailored estate plan.
Catharine Slater Crawford prepares wills and trusts for small and large estates. She will tailor your estate plan to your needs and will give you comprehensive advice as to the management of your estate. She also handles all disputes that may lead to litigation.
Mildred Fletcher Slater has been reviewing and drafting contracts since she first started practicing law more than twenty years ago. This experience has made her well versed in addressing contract disputes.
Catharine Slater Crawford handles all litigation involving contract disputes. She also drafts and reviews contracts in order to provide the very best protections for her clients.
We have experience in forming Corporations, Limited Liability Companies and other entities for our clients. Our experience in contract law, estate planning and real estate law give us the breadth of knowledge to advise our clients of the risks and benefits of creating an entity to conduct business or hold assets. We assist our clients in forming various entities to achieve their ultimate goals. We also work closely with our clients' accountants and financial advisers to ensure that our clients make the best possible decision given the totality of their circumstances.
We are experienced in addressing landlord/tenant disputes involving both commercial and residential lease agreements. We help our clients from start to finish. We draft the lease agreements, manage any disputes between the landlord and the tenant, and enforce the terms of the agreement in the Courtroom, when necessary. Our careful preparation and management of the landlord tenant relationship helps our clients avoid unnecessary risks and losses.
Mildred Fletcher Slater drafts and reviews contracts, settles disputes and executes notices to the parties that are in default.
Catharine Slater Crawford also drafts and reviews contracts and manages disputes between the landlord and tenant. In addition, Catharine litigates the dispute when necessary, including but not limited to the filing of a Summons for Unlawful Detainer, enforcement of possession through eviction, and the collection of any money judgment.
We recognize that no matter how much our clients prepare for the future, the unexpected can happen. When our clients suffer injuries due to a car accident or other incident that was not their fault, we protect their rights and seek monetary damages against the party or company at fault. We understand that the financial impact of unexpected medical bills can be stressful. We negotiate with the insurance company on our clients' behalf and when necessary, take the case to trial. We believe the responsible party should pay for our clients' injuries and work very hard to make that become a reality.
The current state of our economy has caused an increase in the number of potential debt collection claims for our clients. For many of our clients, this is the first time they have had an issue with a consumer failing to fulfill their financial obligations. We carefully navigate our clients through the debt collection process. If we are unable to settle the dispute amicably, we proceed forward with the enforcement of the debt.
The possibility of incarceration or the loss of one's driving privileges can be one of the most troubling prospects for a person. Not only will this have an impact on a person's ability to earn a living but it can also have a devastating effect on that person's family. We advise our clients as to the applicable law attributed to the offense and the consequences of a conviction. We vigorously defend our clients' rights in court.
Catharine Slater Crawford handles most of our clients' traffic and criminal charges. She defends her clients in General District Court and Circuit Court in numerous jurisdictions throughout Virginia.
Our Upperville Office is located in an area fondly called "Horse Country." Many of our clients own and ride horses both professionally and for recreational purposes. Both Mildred Fletcher Slater and Catharine Slater Crawford have owned and bred horses throughout their legal careers and have personal knowledge of the legal implications of such an endeavor. We understand the emotional, financial and time investment horses can be for our clients and protect our clients' interests pursuant to Virginia Equine Law.
